Kids Summer Mahjong Program | 30A Mahjong Kids Camp

Welcome to 30A Mahjong Kids Camp, a thoughtfully designed summer program that introduces children to the fun, focus, and strategy of American Mahjong in a playful, age-appropriate way.

Over the course of three engaging days, campers will learn tile recognition, basic game flow, beginner strategy, and table etiquette through guided instruction, hands-on activities, and interactive play. Designed especially for beginners, this camp helps children build confidence at the table while enjoying a fun, social, and screen-free summer experience.

DAY 1 | MEET THE TILES

  • Learn the suits: crak, bam, dots
  • Learn winds, dragons, flowers, and jokers
  • Understand basic Mahjong vocabulary
  • Practice tile recognition through games and activities
  • Build confidence with simple hands-on exercises

ACTIVITY

Doodles & Dots

A Mahjong-inspired art project that invites campers to imagine themselves as tile designers. Using paint on canvas, each child will create their own original Mahjong tile design.

DAY 2 | LEARNING THE GAME

  • Learn the flow of play
  • Introduction to picking, discarding, and calling tiles
  • Practice beginner patterns and combinations
  • Guided table play with instructor support
  • Learn how to play solo mahj

ACTIVITY

Make Your Own Solo Mahj Board

A creative take-home project that gives campers a fun way to continue practicing after camp. Learning Solo Mahj helps children build confidence, strengthen tile recognition, improve focus, and enjoy Mahjong independently at home. $40 value

DAY 3 | LET'S PLAY

  • Review what we’ve learned
  • Play guided games
  • Practice strategy, observation, and confidence at the table
  • Celebrate with a final Junior Mahjong Tournament

Junior Mahjong Tournament

Camp concludes with a fun final day celebration featuring the Junior Mahjong Tournament, along with prizes and awards recognizing Best Sportsmanship, Mahjong MVP, Kindness Award, and Tournament Winner.

Why These Tiles

A Tile Set Inspired by the Coast

For Junior Mahj Camp, we selected a tile set that feels right at home by the water. The Barrier Island Tiles were created as a tribute to the East Coast and the barrier islands that shape its beauty, memory, and spirit. These tiles are inspired by coastal places from Florida and beyond, celebrating breezes, tides, storms, and the natural beauty of island life.

Why We Chose Them for Camp

At 30A Mahjong Junior Camp, we wanted the campers to learn with tiles that feel playful, meaningful, and connected to the coast. These tiles bring the spirit of the shoreline to the table and make the learning experience feel even more special.

Beautiful Coastal Color

The tiles have a soft greenish-blue tone inspired by sea glass, with a look that feels as though it has been smoothed by tide, ocean, and sun. Each tile is meticulously engraved and hand painted, giving the set a beautiful, elevated finish while still feeling fun and approachable for camp play.
